Designated for seven Academy Awards together with Best Picture, As Excellent As It Obtains became one of the surprising hits of 1997. Jack Nicholson bestows insults with his one-in-a-billion logic of delivery, and if you like severe comedies, this is the movie for you.

Helen Hunt is masterful in her depiction of a hard-luck only mother who takes care of Nicholson’s oddball character, and Greg Kinnear performs well as the neighbor who faces tough times himself. House to a well-written script, exhibiting fabulous direction from James L. Brooks, As Excellent As It Obtains makes a place for itself in the records of film history.

Jack Nicholson stars as bad-tempered, bitter, semi-shut-in writer, Melvin Udall endures from obsessive-compulsive chaos. On a daily basis, like clockwork, Melvin consumes breakfast at the same restaurant where he brings his personal utensils and is lingered on by the same waitress, Carol Connelly. In the meantime, Melvin’s fellow citizen, Simon Bishop, a homosexual actor, who is frequently the object of Melvin’s bigoted remarks, entertains the best art spheres of New York. Simon’s dog outlines a further partition between the two while Simon drops him down the waste chute liners to end his barking.
